No I have never considered myself to be a Gearhead but I do like nice wheels. I’ve always felt that almost any car can look great if you put a nice set of wheels on it. So, naturally that is one thing I am changing on our (yet-to-arrive) Chevy Volt. The stock wheel options look nice, but we can do better and of course as they say, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.
Enter Tire Rack! I’ve used Tire Rack many times in the past and every experience is first rate. The beauty of Tire Rack is that you can search for wheels and tires using a lengthy list of criteria. First and most important is that you can save your specific car in their site and then search for wheels or tires which will fit that exact vehicle. Very helpful!
Since the focus of our new Volt is efficiency, the next criteria I was interested in was wheel weight. The less weight the car has to push, especially in the wheels, the better for attaining optimum EV range. Read more
Ok, good question. Why the Chevy Volt and not one of the competitors be they hybrid, full plug-in electric or just a good old fashioned economy car that gets great gas mileage and costs a lot less…
We did a lot of talking and thinking on this very question and here is how we wound up jumping on the Chevy Volt bandwagon. Let’s consider them one at a time. Also, it is no small factor that we wanted to set a good example for our young boys with thinking green and caring for the planet we live on.
Well, this is cool. I have to admit up front, I have come to be a pretty big fan of Google. So for me it was no surprise to learn that Google has made it a bit easier to find publicly accessible EV charging stations in your area. It’s simple using Google Maps!
So now it’s official! Today we sealed the deal with our local Chevy dealer and ordered a 2013 Chevy Volt. The photo here is a pretty good representation of what it should look like when delivered. The color is called Blue Topaz Metallic and I am really looking forward to seeing the car in this color. I think it is going to look fabulous. The salesman seems pretty anxious to see the Volt in this color as well.
After taking a test drive a few weeks ago and doing some shopping and thinking, we decided to place an order rather than taking one of three Volts they had on the lot. None of them had just the right mix of features we wanted in the car. One was maxed our with all the options (a little too pricy with features we weren’t interested in) and others might have fit the bill except the color choices really didn’t fit our tastes. So we order and wait…
